Frank L. Baum publishes "The Wizard Of Oz"
"The Wizard of Oz" was written to show the silver currency would lead America to victory, much like the main character Dorothy. She wore silver slipers while walking on the yellow brick road to reach the emerald city. -
Assassination of President McKinley
The President of the United States, William McKinley, was shot and fatally wounded on September 6, 1901, inside the Temple of Music on the grounds of the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. After his death, Vice- President Theodore Roosevelt becomes the 26th President of the United States. -
The film "The Great Train Robbery" is released
This is the first film to hit a plot and the start of ideas that would lead to Hollywood, and our booming movie industry today. Now me have high payed actors and every good movie has a plot. This milestone movie was 12 minutes long. -
The Wright Brothers make their first flight.
The brothers had created many plane modles from looking at the design of a bicycle. They had tried to fly many times before this event but this waws their first full, succesful flight. Their paper and balsa wood plane changed flight forever. -
Upton Sinclair publishes "The Jungle"
It was writen to show the lives of immigrants in America but, Sinclair so well posed the conditions of the meat factory the book became an awareness on the hygene and safety of the factories. -
San Francisco Earthquake
A massive earthquake on the northern 246 miles of the San Andraes fault. People realised the danger of earthquakes, and more science was applied to this natural disaster and our earthquake cycle was created. -
Roosevelt Panic
The third srtongest Trust fell and many Trusts paniced withdrawing money from the bank of making ratinal decisions. peaople feared there mpney would be gone or taken from the bank and ran to make quck withdraws. -
NAACP is founded
National Association for the Anvancement of Colored People. After a riot in Springfeild many tried to create racial eqality. The group was formed to enforce this idea. -
Howard Taft elected 27th President if the United States
Taft was easily elected when recomended by Roosevelt. He bused many more Trusts but Rooseveld eventualy argued with his methods and tried to pull him out of govenment. -
Triangle Waistshirt Company Fire
146 people died in this fire people were either burnt to death inhaled to much smoke or jumped out of the window and died. The ages of the dead ranged from 48-11 years old. The stairwells to the upper floors were loc ked because bosses feared the workers would try to pass through on a break during working hours. So since the managers fled the building when they heard about the fire without sopping to unlock the stairwell, their was only one way done. Fit many people as you can in the elevator. -
Standard Oil's monopoly is dissolved
The Standard Oil monopoly was split into many different shops that were all verry small businesses. -
Sinking of the Titanic
Started late night April 14 and ended early in the morning of April 15. A large cruse ship that hit an iceburg and sunk. over 1,500 people died. This was one of the largest accedents to happen on sea durring times of peace. -
Woodrow Wilson is elected 28th President of the United States
Woodrow Wilson is President during World War 1. Wilson is a democrat, who like Roosevelt is a progressive. Unlike Roosevelt instead of mainly attacking Trusts, Wilson mainly sought to make the workplace better for laborers. -
World War 1 Begins
Serbia and Germany prove to be a good alliance, even thought Germany was the main problem, and this war continues longer than it should. The first World War begins, and many, many people loose their loved ones. The spead of propaganda and hatred tward other countries begins a seemingly never ending war. -
Work finished on the Panama Canal
Ships now have a shorter route to take from the Atlantic to the Pacific oceans. People can now cut 8,000 nautical miles. -
Sinking of the Lusitania
The unfairness of the Germans sinking a peaceful cruse liner made the US concider joining the war, 1,198 out of 1.959 people on the ship died. -
United States enters WWI
The United States Tilt the scales and brings confidence to the now winning side. -
18th Amendment (Prohibition)
THis act was appealed in 1933 because it did not effect the consumption of alcohol. But the act was intended to ban the cration and consumption of alcohol, and if you were caught with alcohol you would be punnished. -
19th Amendment (Women's Sufferage)
Women had finally, after relentless protesting, gotten the right to vote.
