Proclamation
The Proclamation of 1763 prohibited settlers from moving west of the Appalachian mountains. -
Sugar Act
Improted molasses is taxed. The only molasses not taxed is that from the British West Indies. -
Currency Act
Colonists are told not to print money. They must use English currency -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act required colonists to buy stamps for all paper products. -
Quartering Act
The Quartering Act required the colonies to provide the British troops with supplies and barracks. It was taxes that werent directed tword the colonists. -
Writs of Assistance
Colonists are smuggling (bringing in goods without the government knowing). That way they won't be taxed. England wants to cut down on smuggling. Search Warrants, Writs of Assistance make it legal for English soldiers to come into the homes of the colonists and look for smuggled goods. -
Stamp Act taken away
Protesting by colonists makes England repeal (take away) the Stamp Act. -
Declaratory Act
The Declaratory Act was an act to repeal the Stamp act because boycotts where hurting British Trade. -
Townshend Act
This act allowed certain jobs and duties in the British plantations and colonies in America. -
Townshend Acts Repealed; Tax on Tea Kept
The colonists boycott English goods to show they do not like the taxes, England takes away the Townshend Act taxes. But keeps the tax on imported tea. -
Boston Massacre
A fight that broke out between soldiers and colonists in Boston. When the dust cleared, five bostonians were dead and ten were injured. -
Intolerable Acts
England feels it must punish colonists for the Tea party. England closes the Boston harbor untill the tea is paid for. English soldiers will stay in the Boston area for awhile to keep an eye on the colonists. -
Boston Tea Party
The Parliment passed the Taxes on Tea, which effected the tea buissness in the colonies. -
Tea Act
The Tea Act allowed the final spark in the revolutionary movement of Boston, it did not force new taxes upon the colonists. It was designed to help the East Indian compony to sell millions of pounds of unsold tea. -
Lexington and Concord (First Battle)
Fighting between Patriots and British troops at Lexington and Concord showed that colonists would not only fight for their rights, but were willing to die for them. -
First Continental Congress
The act of the First Continental Congress was a meeting of representatives that debated the rights of the colonies.
