After School Program
From 8-14 years old, I attended my community's after school program which offered homework support and snacks. It was run by Mrs. Mary Chan, the most influential person in my middle childhood, at the micro level. It was thanks to her program that I believe I reached scholarly and personal developmental outcomes in the industry versus inferiority phase, as theorized by Erik Erikson. The program helped me excel in school and influenced my passion for learning into adulthood. -
A POC at a PWI
At 18 years old, I navigated the college process alone and traveled from CA to IN to attend a predominantly White Institution. In the first week, I became acutely aware of my racial identity when a student said "you got in to meet quota." The remainder of my college career was marked by more powerful experiences that shaped racial ID development, built my multicultural community, and inspired anti-oppressive values at micro-meso levels. This was during Erikson's intimacy v isolation phase. -
Becoming a Global Citizen
I was fortunate to travel many places such as Senegal, Thailand, and Vietnam in my college career (19-20 years old) as part of our curriculum. My travels guided by faculty provided opportunity for me to observe the socioeconomic political development of these nations and their impact trickle down from the macro to micro level of its citizens. During the ongoing intimacy v isolation phase of my life I grew more passionate about globalization, culture, and community, leading to graduate studies. -
An International Psychologist
From 24-26 years old, still at the intimacy v isolation phase, I earned a MA in International Psychology. At the micro level, the program influenced my values, beliefs, and practice on the meso-macro level as a humanitarian, global citizen, psychologist, and more. I became versed in global human rights declarations and acquired knowledge to partner with diverse communities to builf resilience in the face of man made and natural disasters. Today, I strive to be a better trauma informed provider.
