When he was 21, Prince Henry, his brothers, and his father attacked the Moslem port of Ceutha in north Morocco. This attack ended in victory which inspired him to become an explorer. -

Beyond Cape Bojador- Henry the Navigator
Prince Henry convinced Gil Eannes to try to go past Cape Bojador and he succeeded in 1434. Gil Eannes was the only one to survive out of 15 expiditions past Cape Bojador. -
