  • Monkey in Space

    A monkey named Yorick and 11 mice were recovered after an Aerobee missile flight of 236,000 feet at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico. Yorick got a fair amount of press as the first monkey to live through a space flight.

    Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to fly to space when she launched on the Vostok 6 mission June 16, 1963. Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman to go into space when she flew Vostok 6 in 1963. She spent almost three days in space and orbited Earth 48 times

  • First man on moon

    Apollo 11 took 3 men to the moon. Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Michael Collins. Neil and buzz got on a smal spacecraft called the eagle. Neil was the first person to walk on the moon. He said "that’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind".
