    Spence's older sister Louise ran outside to tell Spence and his younger brother Lloyd that the Japanese were bombing Pearl Harbor and that a war would start. Lloyd and Spence went inside to listen to the radio reports. Robert, Spence's older brother tells them at dinner that he would sign up. (RW pic)

    Spence is finally almost seventeen, old enough to join the war with a parent signature. He drops out of school, retuns his books, and tells his dad that he wants to join. After much convincing, his dad finally signed his induction papers. He could become a paratrooper.

    Dieter's company is dug in because of the continuous artillery fire.

    The newspapers prediction that another front (most likely in France) would be open. (Not this date specifically, just sometime this spring.)
  • D-Day (RW)

    D-Day (RW)
    Allied troops from the US, Great Britain, and Canada begin to land on Normandy. They gain a foothold in France by the end of the day. This invasion was called ivasion of D-Day, Invasion of Normandy, and Operation Overlord.

    Dieter and his crew of Hitler Youth dig the trench called the Westwall in preperation for when the Germans would make their last stand against the allied powers, who had been pushing the Germans back ever since D-Day.

    Dieter Hendricks gets to meet Adolf Hitler, De Fuhrer, his hero, his idol.

    The completion deadline givin to Dieter, three other Hitler Youth leaders, and some SS overseers of the Westwall project, given to them by Albert Speer. Albert Speer was one of the highest ranking Nazi officials in the government.

    Hitler makes his last attempt in the west and makes a big buldge in the Allie's lines, but the allies win, Germany must retreat, the Allies have already won.

    Spence's division finally heads into battle after already being dissapointed about missing D-Day.

    Spence's division was able to get mail on Christmas and the officers went easier on them that day.

    Dieter's company made another push a little ways away from Bastogne. It was Dieter's first Christmas away from home.

    Spence is killed by German soldiers as he tries to help Dieter. The German soldiers had finally come to help Dieter and shot Spence who was tring to take Dieter back behind the allied lines to get a medic to help Dieter. Dieter survives, but Spence does not.
