The French and Indian War started in 1754. It started because both the British and the French traded with Native Americans, and land disputes between France and Britain. -
End of French and Indian War
The French and Indian War ended when the Treaty of Paris was signed, and France had to give up almost all of its land in North America. -
Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 stated that all of the land occupied by Englishmen inside of "Indian territory" had to be abandoned, prohibited several activities, and established 4 new colonies: East Florida, West Florida, Quebec, and Grenada. It helped lead to the American Revolution because the colonists were angry wiht Great Britain for restricting where they can settle. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was the first serious attempt to assert governmental control on the colonies. It helped lead to the American Revolution because the colonists were highly taxed and were angry with Britain. -
Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts were a series of laws passed, and were intended to raise revenue in the colonies. They were named after Charles Townshend. It might have helped lead to the American Revolution because the act was met wiht restitance and Americans were not happy about the new taxes. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was a street fight between a group of British soldiers and a mob of American citizens. Five Americans were killed when they attacked the soldiers and the soldiers fired into the crowd. It helped lead to the American Revolution because it made the Americans angry towards Britain and the soldiers in the colonies. -
Tea Act
The Tea Act was designed to help the East India Company by selling tea at a bargain price. The tea was taxed highly, though, which led to boycotts in the colonies. It was the last spark to the revolutionary movement in Boston. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was when a group of colonists dresses as indians climbed onto a ship and threw the cargo of tea into the Boston Harbor. -
Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were a group of acts that were meant to reverse the trend of resistence in the colonies. -
Lexington and Concord
Lexington and Concord was when the British tried to capture Sam Adams and John Hancock in Lexington, and seize gunpowder in Concord. Horseback riders like Paul Rever, warned the countryside when the British arove. -
Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence stated that the American colonies no longer regarded themselves as part of the British Empire.
