    George Washington- The Federal Court System was established. The distribution of power or "checks and balances" among the three seperate branches ensures that not one branch of governemnt has too much power.
  • Bill of Rights were added to the Constitution

    Bill of Rights were added to the Constitution
    George washington- The Bill of Rights were added to the Constitution. They are the First Ten Amendments outlining the basic rights and freedoms of American citizens not specifically included in the Constitution.

    Political parties were made when there were disagreements over the proper role of the national government.
  • Two Party System Emerged

    Two Party System Emerged
    John Adams-The two party system emerged.
    The Federalists (wealthy) of 1796 attached themselves to the successful campaign in favor of the Constitution and were solid supporters of the federal administration. The opposition party adopted the name DEMOCRATIC-REPUBLICANS, which suggested that they were more fully committed to extending the Revolution to ordinary people.

    Thomas Jefferson- Bought Louisiana from France. The French sold Louisiana for 15 million dollars.

    Thomas Jefferson requested that Lewis and Clark explore the new land of west of the Mississippi river to establish American presence before Britain and Europe tried to claim it.

    James Madison- War of 1812 caused European nations to gain respect for the Untited States. The U.S. declared war on Britain. Americans wanted to stop impressment. They also wanted Britain to stop arming the Indians.

    James Monroe- Issued the Monroe Doctrine. A policy that the U.S. government created saying that any further efforts by Europe to colonize land or interfere with States in North and South America would be viewed as acts of aggression.
