    Nancy Cartwright was born January 24, 1944 in Pennsylvania. She was married to Sir Stuart Hampshire and has two daughters, Emily and Sophie. She is a Professor of Philosophy at Durham University and the University of California, San Diego. Her current research focuses on evidence and objectivity.
