More books became available to me, teachers read to us daily and I realized I love books!
  • Kindergarten

    Kindergarten
I started school! teacher read to us daily and I started learning to read a little bit on my own.
  • I Can Read

    I Can Read
Teachers and family members reading to me allowed me to learn to read and I gained tremendous interest in books.
  • Book Fairs

    Book Fairs
Scholastic Book Fairs started coming to our schools and I loved them! Once these started and I got to start picking my own new books I always looked forward to reading and the next time they would be at our school.
  • Book Tests

    Book Tests
My elementary school did contests for all grades and students for reading. Students would pick a book and each book was worth a certain amount of points. After reading the book you would take a test online and it would go into a database and rack up your points. Students would get prizes based on the amount of points they got. It was so much fun and all students loved it.
  • 6th Grade

    6th Grade
Reading started to become slightly challenging for me. Books got harder and I could read the words, however understanding it all was another story. Reading for awhile became scary and I did not like going to class because I didn't understand a lot of what was going on in our stories. This was my reading class.
  • Practice Makes Perfect

    Practice Makes Perfect
By middle school age I had younger siblings, this allowed me to practice my reading skills with them. I got to read to them and help teach them to read too. I got to teach my brothers to learn to read as I do.
  • 7th Grade

    7th Grade
Turns out I just needed a teacher that was able to explain things in a better way. My 6th grade teacher really just didn't teach things in a way that worked for me and it almost completely turned me away from reading. In 7th grade my new teacher was amazing, she taught in a way that helped the class do Pre reading and during reading exercises and we talked about our books after them and it just allowed for me to have a greater understanding of the books. This luckily brought me back to reading.
