    Battle of Hastings

    William the Conqueror leads Normandy to victory over England. Marries, Eleanor of Aquitane, uniting Normandy and England

    Magna Carta

    King John who successed King Richard, reluctantly signed the Magna Carta that guarenteed basic political rights to the people such as no taxation without representation, trial by jury, and protection by law
  • Nov 1, 1295

    Parliament

    A parliament was ventually signed and established in England
  • Jan 1, 1300

    The Great Schism

    King Phillip IV went against Pope Boniface and created own pope, splitting the church and country
  • Jan 1, 1328

    King Charles IV dies

    The French King Charles IV dies with no male heir. Charles's son in law and nephew fight to claim the throne, starting the Hundred Year War
  • Jan 1, 1346

    Black Plague comes to Europe

    The plague came in 3 forms
    - pneumonic: attacked the lungs
    - septicemic: attacked the bloodstream
    - bubonic: caused buboes on the body

    Plague ends in Europe

    ended up killing 1/3 of the population, few sparatic cases of the plague popped up every once in a while but nothing large

    End of Great Schism

    New Holy Roman Emperor and his councel forcing both popes to resign and he assigned a new single pope

    Joan of Arc

    Joan of Arc convinced King Charles VII to let her lead the army against the English in a battle. She achieved victory as a woman leading an army

    Death of Joan of Arc

    Joan of Arc is eventually captured by English and accused of herecy and burned at the stake. She was later sainted by the catholic church in 1922
