Martin takes public stand against Johann Tetzel
Tetzel was selling indulgences which was a pardon for sinning. He was trying to raise money to rebuild St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome, but he gave the impression that buying indulgences, you could earn your way to heaven. Martin's response was writing the 95 Theses. -

Martin posted the 95 Theses
Matin posted the 95 Theses on the door of the castle church in Wittenberg. Someone copied his words an took them to a printer. His name was known thoughout Germany. His words sharted the Reformnation. -
Jun 15, 1520
Martin Threatened
Pope Leo X issued a decree threatening Martin. He was going to be excommunitcated unless he took back his statements. Instead Martin threw the decree into a bonfire with his students from Wittenberg around him. Loe excommunicated Martin. -

Martin to Worms
Martin arrived in Worms. He was told to take his teachings back. He was dismissed, but he couldn't be arrested. It was secrectly understood that he would be arrested anyways, but Prince Frederick took him and hid him in Wartburg Castle. -
