Stamp Act
Tax on 50 paper documents, upsets clonists because they had no represntation. -
Stamp Act Congress
First attempt at colonial unity. -
Quartering act
Colonists were forced to house britiah troops if asked to. Upsets colonists because they were already angry at the British, and now they had to feed the troops of britain. -
Townshend Duties
Britain placed taxes on imports (lead, paint, paper, and tea). Further upset colonists after the quartering act. -
Boston Massacre
Colonists rioted in the streets, threw snowballs at british soldiers, the soldiers then opened fire into the crowd, killing five colonists. Extremely upset the colonists because the soldiers got off with little puunishment. -
Tea Act
Lowered cost of tea, but forced colonists to purchase only East India Company tea, angered the colonists because they were against all taxes. -
Boston Tea Party
In response the British passed the Intolerable acts, colonists dumped loads of tea into the Boston Harbor. -
Intolerable acts
Closed boston port, Extraterritoriality of accused british officers, reduced colonial government power. Infuriated colonists, led to the first continental congress. -
1st continental congress
Met in Phillidelphia, all colonies, excluding Georgia, were present, created a list of grievances, wanted to go back to salutary neglect, called for military preperations, complete boycott of britain, meet again in a year.
