  • Germany Invades Poland

    The Soviet Unions attacks Poland in 1939. They easily take out their two million person army. This means they are invading their treaty, and British declares war on the soon after.
  • Germany invades Denmark, Norway, Holland, and Belgium

    Hitlor swore he was 'protecting' Denmark and Norway when he crossed the border with tanks. This violated the non-agression treaty he previously signed. He also moved over one hundred divisions in Holland and Belgium. Causing over 100,000 casualties. He switched their leaders, too.

    Manhattan Project *key event
    The Manhattan project was a code name for a time when the United States were creating the atomic bomb. This is the biggest project in America up to date. They even had help from Canada and Britain; creating over 100,000 jobs.

    The Attack on Pearl Harbor happened december 7, 1941, in Hawaii. Japan attacked the United States on there US fleet. This in turn causes the United States to declare war on Japan, and when other countries get involved we then have WWll.

    Because of Japan being in a war with United States, Italy and Britain decide to chime in. They also declare war on the United States to help their ally out. Because of this President Roosevelt can now declare war on them, too. Also, this is a bad mistake for Germany to make.

    Almost a year after Pearl Harbor, over 800 ships, carrying 185,000 men and 20,000 vehicles landed on the coast of Algeria. This was code-named operation torch. Churchill around this time said, "The is the beginning of the end. It is the end of the beginning."

    Roosevelt Announces "Unconditional Surrender" Policy
    Roosevelt announces he will only back down if Germany or Japan surrenders unconditionally. Many people say that this prolonged the war. But because of this, Japan could not get out of the war unless clearly surrendering.

    D-day *key event
    American, Britain, and Canada all line up on a 50 mile long beach to invade France. The invasion was one of the largest military assaults in history and required long planning. Over 150,000 people were lined up on the beaches. We ultimetly ended up winning.

  • German Buzz Bomb Attacks Against London

    German starts buzz-bombing London. Buzz-bomb is when a jet shoots a missile or bomb towards the enemy. They not only have to fly carefully, but also have to shoot out missiles.

    Germany starts fighting with Longdon using V-2 rockets. Rockets are expensive and hard to make, making rockets an expensive weapon. They are very effective and helpful.
  • Roosevelt and Churchill Agree to Bomb Japan

    Roosevelt and Churchill agree to bomb Japan in secret. The bombs they plan to use are atomic, which are deadly. They agree to create them when they have the available supplies. They decide on keeping it a secret from the Soviet Union.

    Allied Firebombing of Dresden
    On February 13, 1945, allies begin to firebomb Dresden Germany. This is the most destructive bombing in history, including the ones in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It killed about 135,000 people. More then 3,400 tons were dropped onto Dresden.

    Another mass destruction again the city of Tokyo from the United States. This killed up to 100,000 people, and injured even more. Japan does not surrender though, so the war still goes on. Japan is now suffering due to lack of people.
  • Harry Truman Becomes President of the United States

    Roosevelt dies due to stroke. Millions of American are sad and depressed. Truman than becomes the president of the United States. He knows nothing about the atomic bomb project (the Manhatten Project.) He laters gets a brief info on it.

    The allies had Germany stuck, there was no way of getting out of this war. Germany tried to make an agreement with Britain and the United States, but ultimately had to surrender.

    After being asked to finalize the bomb approval, Truman finally agrees. It is not official that a bomb will be sent to Japan from the United States. This will very much effect the war, and kill many. The end is somewhat near.

    The war is at its peak when the Soviet Union decides to join the war. It was perviously trying to avoid the war at all costs. They were forced to join the war when Hitler violated the non-agression treaty that they agreed on. This caused the Soviet Union to declare war on Germany.

    This is the second atomic bomb that the United States will send out. It kills about 45-75 thousand. This too had an impact on the war they were in. The United States had planned that this would be such a bad impact that they would have to surrender the war.

    After the two bombings, Japan cannot afford to be in the war anymore. They have lost too many citizens and supplies. The war costs them a lot, and they take it hard. They had to surrender. They surrendered on the US ship Missouri, Americans are estatic.
