This allowed for the mass production of documents which allowed ideas to spread. In 1439 most people could not read. -

The philisophical journal of Royal Society. It was published by scientists and engineers, which in 1665 were among the only few that could read, to allow ideas to be shared therefore advancing science. -

Technology has improved to allow monthly interest show that more people could read. Although the majority of the population still couldn't read. -
First major newspaper in the UK
Technology now allows daily printing of 'newspapers' in which people can find out what happened in the previous day and react to it today. This speeds up events and also creates reports. -
Telephone invented
This enabled people to communicate which each other in real time over long distances. It was usually used in commerce. -

This device enabled the members of the public to communicate with each other. But it was very expensive so most people didn't have this privilidge. -
BBC radio begins broadcasting
The Government owned broadcasters. It was the first mass media tobe transmitted directly into people's homes. Milliona of people bought this privilidge and it was also used by Hitler for propaganda. -
BBC begins broadcasting television in the UK
This was and still is an incredibly powerful media source which was able to shape the publics opinions. The BBC was now able to educate, inform and entertain now. In the present day there are 24 million TV's in the UK. -
Invention of the internet
The internet was invented by the US military. They made it so that they could still keep in touch with others even if one of the bases was destroyed. -
Cable TV widely available in the UK
This allows for the transmission of hundreds of channels within the UK. It also lays down groundwork for broadband. -
Mobile phone goes on sale in the UK
It costed about £2000 and it weight was about 1kg. It had half an hour talk time and was mostly used by businessmen because they were the people that could afford it and also needed it the most so that it could make their business work easier. -
Satellite TV (sky) widely available to UK public
It is very hi tech and allows for even more channels. It now allows for reporting live and direct from the scene of the even. It has an astonishing 10 million subscribers. -

The most popular form of instant communication was formed; the text message. It is the most popular due to the fact that 1 billion texts are sent per week. -

This allows people to seach for things that they potentially want to buy and it also allows they to purchase it if they desire. -
3G mobile available
This mobile phone allows the recording of images and film. This enables everybody who has this mobile to be a reporter because they have the opportunity to record images and upload them for the good or bad. -
Web 2.0 emerges
By this time the internet has become more about social networking. E.g. myspace, BEBO, facebook etc. -
4G mobile available
This allows for extremely high speed internet access on phones. -
Web 3.0 begins to emerge
Now the internet is becoming more of a tool that finds and arranges things on your behalf. This is often called 'clouds'.
