Simple Game Interface
Tennis for Two used one colour and some lines to create a tennis pitch for the player to interact with. -
First Online Game
1969 is where the first online game originated from allowing other players to come together and enjoy the experience of their favorite game together. -
First Online Graphical Virtual World
In 1974 a game called Mazewar was released. Mazewar was the first online game to have a graphical virtual world. By connecting multiple computers together you could all play Mazewar with each other. -
Interface with Score and Colour
Pac-Man was created which had score counters, coloured interface and also showed your high score. -
8-Bit Graphics Released
Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was released which supported 8-Bit graphics. The console also had 2 controllers. NES was discontinued in 1995. -
Online With Up to 100 Players
A game called Island of Kesmai was released. The game cost $12 per hour and could support uoti 100 players at one time. -
More Levels and New Score
Super Mario Bros was created which introduced multiple levels which side scrolled and as well as the tradition score system it also included a new score system, coins. -
16-Bit Games Released
In 1988 several consoles where released that supported 16-Bit Graphics. These console where: Genesis, Super NES, TurboGrafx-16. -
Basic 3D Graphics
Basic 3D graphics was introduced to consoles. These games used simple polygons that changed shape giving the 3D effect. -
First Graphical Online RPG
Neverwinter Nights was released bringing the first online Role Playing Game with graphics. This game is to not be confused with the Neverwinter Nights released by Bioware a few years later, Neverwinter Nights cost $6 per month and ended in 1997. -
32 and 64 Bit Graphics
Several new console where released during 1993-2006 which all support 32 and 64bit graphics. The main one being Sony PlayStation. -
Online with 2D Graphics and Animations
The Ream Online was the first online game to have 2D graphics and animations even when not in combat. The Realm Online had a turn based combat system and is still avaliable and being played now. -
First online 3D RPG
Ultima Online which was released in 1997 brought 3D graphics and a virtual, fantasy world to online. Ultima Online brought players together into a fantasy world which players would recognise from other Ultima games. Ultima Online is still being played today with around 100,000 active players. -
RPGs New Interface
Role Playing Games got a new interface in Final Fantasy. The new interface included Experience allowing for players to level up na dother things making the interface look more complex. -
Next Generation 3D
This is when the PlayStation 2 and the Original Xbox was released brining DVD based games better processors and graphics processors making games even more realistic. -
Online Gaming Rapid Expasion
When we entered the 2000s the online games market exploded with companies releasing games every year trying to become to market leader. -
The Online Market Leader
In 2004 Blizzard Entertainment released World of Warcraft a subscrition based 3D Massivly Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG). With millions of players World of Warcraft was the most popular online game. However, over the past years Free to Play RPGs have begun more popular making WoW drop almost 1.3 millions players at the beggining of 2013 -
Now
Now graphics in games have become extremy realistic with First Person Shooters such as Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty Ghosts soon to be realsed. Also with the next generation console Xbox One and PlayStation 4 also due to be released later this year.
