On this day, Anne Boleyn became the first Queen to be publicly executed. Accused of incest and witchcraft, Henry VIII oversaw her procession to the scaffold, where her prayers were heard by a gathering crowd, before the axe fell. This is a very detailed scene of the Other Boleyn Girl, and the rarity of this type of event occuring is captured brilliantly. -

This was a radical development of the 16th century that allowed people with seriously poor eyesight to regain some sight for the purpose of reading and more. Dutchman Zacharias Janssen is credited for this invention. -

The Completion of the Protestant Reformation in England
1603 saw the completion of the Protestant Reformation in England. Led from the early 16th century by Martin Luther, this caused a change in the relationship between England and Spain. Because Spain was a vastly Catholic society, it meant that England and Spain had once again become fierce rivals, no longer with an alliance initiated by the marriage of Henry to Katherine of Aragon.
