El Salvador Most memorable Civil War Massacres
Due to the inequality of the wealth distribution between the citizens of El Salvador during the late1880, a group of indigenous was led to the governmental building to express their discontent by Augustin Faranbundo Marti. They were met by a military forced that killed more than 30,000 people. This massive killing marked the beginning of what it was later known as the El Salvador Civil war. This timeline lists some of the most memorable massacres from 1932 to 1989. -
LA MATANZA
Due to the oppressions from the then President Maximiliano Hernadez Martinez, the peasant decided to upraise against the government. The revolt was a combination of strikers and insurgency which ended in the killing of more than 30,000 civilians which where mostly indigenous people. STUDENT MASSACRE
On July 30, 1975, high school and University students met at the University of El Salvador in a peaceful protest. Archbishop Oscar Romero Assasination
One of the most important event during the civil war was the assassination of Archbishop Oscar Romero. A month after publishing a letter to the USA asking to stop aiding the oppressively military government. SUMPUL RIVER MASSACRE
The Sumpul River was a mass murder that was carried by the pro-government paramilitaries in order to disrupt the activities of the FMLN.

EL MOZOTE MASSCRE
Carried out by the Atlacatl Battalion of The Salvadorian Army 800 to 1000 residents of the El Mozote neighboring villages were killed. SANTA RITA MASSACRE

The Martyrs
