Civil War begins. Confederate Victory. Makes the Union realize that the South is strong too and the war will last much longer than thoguht. -
President Lincoln issues Proclamation
Proclamation calling for militiamen, and summons a special session of Congress for July 4. -

Proclamation of Blockade against Southern ports. blockade limits the ability of South to stay supplied in the war, while the Norht remains industrialized and well supplied. -

Mississippi River, Union victory, split the south geographically, which made confederate war plans difficult to coordinate -
Gettysburg
Union victory with most casualties, was referred to as a turning point in the war since the Union was able to defeat Lee, which ended the invasion of the confederacy into the union. -
Union burned everything from Atlanta to North
Union burned everything in their path when invading confederacy n order to prevernt the south from being able to fight back.
Significant because after the war, much reconstruction was needed in the South. -
End of War
End of Civil War with Union Victory, begins the reconstruction process. Lincoln is president. -

At Ford's theater. Reconstruction slows after he is assasinated.
Andres Johnson takes the presidential role as he is elected and continues reconstruction. -
Lee Surrenders
Union victory at Appomattox Court House, which caused LEe to surrender his army. This set the stage for the end of the Civil War and treaties. -
13th Amendment ratified
Freed slaves and abolished slavery entirely throughout the US. Reconstruction Amendment. -
14th Amendnent
The 14th amendment is adopted and allows all slaves citizenship and rights of a citizen.Reconstruction Amendment. -
15th Amendment passed
Universal men's suffrage. All males are allowed to vote, even slaves and even those who do not own land.Reconstruction Amendment.
