Dred Scott vs. Stanton Case
Scott was an enslaved man in Missouri. After his owned died Scott argued that he was a free man because he lived in places where slavery was illegal. Attack on Harper's Ferry
John Brown and eighteen others captured the Harper's Ferry arsenal. He sent men to rally and arm local slaves and he wanted to capture the weapons. -
Election of 1860
The four runners were Stephen A. Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, John Breckinridge, and John Bell. The Northern and Southern runners had different ideas about slavery, and slavery split the country apart. This picture shows the popular vote during the election of the four runners. -
Secession
Southern states wanted to secede from the Union. On December 20th 1860, South Carolina was the first state to secede from America. The other states started to drop out of the Union and form their own country called Confederate States of America. This picture shows the progress of the secession. -
Bleeding Kansas
People went to Kansas illegally to vote for slavery. The ones against it argued against it. People that were for slavery came and attacked a town called Lawrence, Kansas. After that happened, Henry Brown and seven other men made a massacre. As the news spread, civil war broke out into Kansa, becoming known as “Bleeding Kansas”
