Articles of Confederation
The Articles basically continued the structure and operation of government as established under the Seconf Continental Congress. What the states wanted was a confederation among the 13 independent states rather than a strong nation government. -
Treaty of Paris
Negotiated between Great Britian and the United States ending the revolutionary war and reconized american independence. -
The Ordinance of 1785
How the government of the United States would measure, divide and distribute the land it had acquired from Great Britain north and west of the Ohio River at the end of the American Revolution. -
Shay's Rebellion
Daniel Shays (a former captain in the revoultionary army) led a band that closed the Massachusetts state supremem court. When their pleas brought no help, Shays gathered 1200 men and advanced on the federal arsenal in Springfield. -
The Constitutional Convention
55 delegates from the different states met with each other in order to create an alternative to the Articles of Confederation. They would agree to a series of compromises on the issues of representation based on population, and representation based on slavery. -
Northwest Ordinance
Established the principle that the territories were to be developed for statehood on an equal basis with the older states.
