Protest Against Indulgences
On this day, Martin Luther wrote to Albrecht, Archbishop of Mainz and Magdeburg, protesting the sale of indulgences. He believed that only God could grant forgiveness and that it was wrong to claimed that indulgences prevented buyers from all punishments. This was said to be the start of the Protestant Reformation. -
