Rpince Henry Gives Support to Explore Portugal
Prince Henry sponsored the exploration to Portugal, a small country near Spain. The explorers eventually went on to claim the Madeira and Azores Islands around Portugal. -

Dias Founds Cape of Good Hope
After Prince Henry died in 1460, Bartholomeau Dias rallied his people to round the southern tip of Africa. He named it the Cape of Good Hope because it gave them a new sea route to Asia. -

A Dutch fleet returned to Amsterdam from Asai after being away from more than a year. The fleet brought back pepper, cloves, and other spices. -
