5 Social Institutions (Government)- Bush and Yeltsin Call An official end to the Cold War
On February 1, 1992 George H.W. Bush and Boris Yeltsin call the end of the Cold war. This relates to government because the Cold War was a very political war and there was little fighting actually done. -
Social Ranking- Bill Clinton is Elected President of the United States
On November 3, 1992, Bill Clinton was elected President. This chaged his social ranking because he went from being a govenor to the President. -
Counter Culture- Waco Incident
On April 13, 1993 the ATF launched an assult on the headquarters of David Koresh in Waco, Texas. He was the leader of a cult, which is a counter culture, and he ordered his disiples to kill themselves and set the compound on fire. 87 people died in the incident. -
Social Isolation- NATO Shoots Down Serb Aircraft
On February 28, 1994, NATO shot down and Serb aircraft after it flew into a no-fly zone over Bosnia. It was the first military engagement undertaken by NATO. It is an example of social isolation because NATO threatend to bomb the Serb heavy weapons that surrounded the city of Gorazde. -
Crime- Oklahoma City Bombing
On April 19, 1995, Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols bombed a federal building in Oklahoma City. 168 people were killed including 8 federal marshals. Nichols was scentenced to life and McVeigh was scentenced to death. This realates to crime beacuse this was a huge crime. -
Social Interactions- Moved from Arvada to Littleton
On October 6, 1995 I moved from Arvada to Littleton. This relates to social interaction because my social iteractions changed when I met the new peple in my new neighborhhood. -
5 Social Institutions- First Day of Kindergarten
I started kindergarten on August 18, 1996 and this is a part of the social institutions because one of them is school and this is when I began learning how to interact with people outside of my family. -
Equality- Texas Dragging Death
On June 7, 1998, 24 year-old James Byrd Jr. was stripped and dragged behind a pick up truck until he died by two Ku Klux Klan memebers in Jasper, Texas. This show how people are still stuggling to be treated as equals even in modern times. -
Deviance- South Park Movie Released
On June 30, 1999 the South Park movie was released. The makers of the movie, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, were surely looking to be deviant by setting the record for the most obsenities per minute. It had 399 obenities in 80 minutes which is roughly 5 per minute. -
Socializtion- Started Playing Hockey
On September 22, 1999 I started playing hockey. This is a part of socialization beacuse it taught me how to work with other people and be a part of a team. -
Social Status- George W. Bush was Sworn in as President
On January 20, 2001 George W. Bush was sworn in as the 41st president of the United States. This part of social status because if you are elected president it hugely changes your social status. -
Ethnocentrism- Trian Bombing in India
On February 27, 2002 a Muslim mob bombed a train in India. This was India's worst Muslim- Hindu violence in a decade. It killed 1,00 people. This is an example of ethnocentrism because one culture thinks they are more superior to another. -
White Collar Crime- Enron
On December 2, 2002 Enron declared bankrupcy. Enron was the 7th largest corporation in the world. Criminal charges were brought against the CFO, his wife, and other employees. This is white collar crime because it has to do wih serious non-violent crimes. -
Self Reliance- Tsunami in Indonesia
On December 26, 2004, an earthquake measuring at a 9.0 on the Rictor scale caused a tsunami to hit Indonesia. Tens of thousands of people died. This relates to self reliance because people had to revert back to their instincts to survive. -
Frued- Id, Ego, Superego
On August 17, 2005, I started high shcool. This is when i really started to develop my id, ego, and superego because I was seeing the world in a little more mature environment where everything rides on your values and personality. -
Hard Work/ Material Success- My First Real Job
On May 30, 2007 I got my first real job at Columbine Country Club as a caddy. This tought me, if I worked hard I could have the nice things that I wanted. -
Socialization- Graduating From High School
I graduate from high school on May 21, 2009. This is an example of socialization because i will be ready to enter into the real world.
