The Geneva Accords
The Geneva Accord split Vietnam along the 17th parallel. Giving the North Vietnam to Ho Chi Minh (communist party) and the South Vietnam to Ngo Dinh Diem (anti-communist party). -
French defeat at Dien Bien Phu
Vietminh overran the French outpost, forcing the French to surrender. This event lead to the Geneva Accords. -
Youth involvement increasing
Young adults start to become more active with protest. They start to go in movements and make organizations. One group is called the New Left, which is a movement towards socialism or change in American society. -
Sending our military advisors
Kennedy sends in military advisors to Vietnam. This leads the way to open up U.S military role in South Vietnam. Which makes us slowly taking role into the Vietnam issues. -
Gulf of Tonkin
The Gulf of Tonkin incident, which is also knows as USS Maddox incident which increase United States involvement. In the Golf of Tonkin Resolution, congress passed a law granting the president miliatary power to take all nessary measures to prevent further attacks. -
Tet offensive
This event was during the Vietnam new year celebration, when there was suppose to be no fighting on their Vietnam instead attacked cities and killed people and going against the peace that was suppose to be given during the holiday -
Annocement that ended escalation
LBJ former president, announced he wouldn't not be going up for the reelection or taking another term for president. This annocement ends escalation of war. -
Lai masacre
The event lead to an outbreak in protest. In a village in Lai women and innocent children were killed. When the news came out, people went crazy and started to protest against the war and what it was doing -

Assassination
On April 4, 1968 an important civil rights leader was assassinated, his name was Martin Lutheran king jr. A few months later on June 5 of the same year, president Kennedy would be assassinated also. Outrage occurred after the death of two important people of this time. -
Nixon wins again!
Even though voting was very close, Nixon was able to regain and win another term as president. With his campaign he promised to get the soldiers back home and get out of the war. -
Kent state
After the outrage from Lai massacre, students and other people gathered together to protest against the war. At Kent state, national guard killed a few people and injured others. Which lead to further conflicts. -
Protest at home
While the war was going on, near the end more and more people were turning against the idea of war. They believed the war wasn't ours to be fighting in, the south Vietnam wasn't getting any better than the communist they were fighting and the U.S couldn't police and prevent the whole world from turning to communist
