Assassination of the Archduke in Serbia
Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were shot dead in Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip who was one of the six Bosnian Serb assassians. The objective of the assassination was to break off Austria-Hungary's south-Slav provinces so they could be combined into a Greater Serbia or a Yugoslavia. -

Battle of Marne
First World War 1 battle fought between sept 5th - 12th. This first battle would result in allied victory against the Germans. This battle ended the monthlong German offensive that opened the war. -
First Battle of Ypres
This battle was fought around the strategic town called Ypres in West Belgium. Both the Germans and the Westan Allies tried to secure this town from enemy control. This would lead to a series of battles fought around and in West Flanders Belgium municipality. -
Zeppelin raid on england
Germany employed three zeppelins to bomb Britiain the L3, L4, and the L6. The L6 however was forced to turn back due to Mechanical problems. The L3 and L4 succeeded in dropping their bombs on the English costal towns. -
Battle of Loos
The battle of loos was fought in September. On September 25 the British 1st army commander commanded by Douglas Haig attacked the German position Loos. A key weapon in this battle used by the British was the use of poison gas. -
Battle of Verdun
This was the longest single battle in World War 1. The casualties from Verdun was one of the major reasons for British starting the Battle of Somme in July 1916. This battle lasted from Febuary 21 to December 16.
