Franz Ferdinand assassinated
Franz Ferdinand was an Archduke of Austria-Este, Austro-Hungarian and Royal Prince of Hungary and Bohemia. On this day him and his wife, Sophia, were shot dead in Sarajevo. This caused Austria-Hungary to declare war against Serbia. The this caused Germany and Austria-Hungary to declare was against eachother. -
Germany declares war on France
Due to the Schleiffen Plan, made in 1905, German forces were under order to invade Belgium. Although as German troops were in Belgium, The British foreign secretary sent order for German troops to leave Belgium. -
Battle of Tannenberg.
The Russian army advanced into Prussia, but there was a problem for Russia. Russia had problems getting supplies to their men. Then German forces got involved, which ended up as a heavy defeat on Rusiian troops. -
The Germans capture Warsaw
The attack began in July. By the end of July German troops reached the Russian fortress of Novo-Gerogievsk. From here the German force captured the city of Warsaw without a fight. -
Battle of Verdun
This battle was faught between the German and Franch forces. The German forces were looking to capture Verdun and inflict a good amount of damage on French troops. Although the battle ended as a French victory. -
USA dclares war on Germany
President Woodrow Wilson asked Congress for a declaration of war against Germany. On April 6, Congress approved the request and the United States was then went to war with Germany. The US wanted to go to war with them due to many prior events. -
Britain captures Jerusalm
Jerusalem was a target of Britain since March. The British capture of Jerusalem began to be seen as a morale boost for the British troops. -
Marshall Foch
He was a French soldier. He served as the general of the French Army during WWI. When Germany made a final chance to win the war they appointed him as the commander of the Allied forces. -
Bafttle of Megiddo.
During the Battle of Megiddo, the British forces met in another battle with Palestine troops. This time Britain was looking to finally conquer their long faught enemies. Under lead of Edmund Allenby, the British troops were abl to push their way to victory. -
WWI ends.
In the French town of Redonthes. An Armstice was written up and signed, bringing the war to a close.
