AKA, Hitler's counterattack. Germany almost won this battle by creating a bulge in the Ameircan lines, but the Allied bombers steadily atacked just in time to push the Germans out of France. -
US Captures Iwo Jima
This was one of the fiercest battles of the island hopping campaign. 23,000 Marines died, but they finally did take the island. This battle for Iwo Jima started in February and lasted til March. -

He and a few of his closest associates commited suicide once the Americans, British, and Russians had reached Berlin. -
Bomb Was Dropped on Hiroshima
Truman finally decided to drop an atomic bomb over Nagasaki. Within two minutes of the explosion, 60,000 civilians died. Over the next three days, Japan debated whether or not to surrender. Shortly after, Japan became the victim to yet another atomic bomb over Nagasaki. This killed nearly 35,000 civilians.
