Germany invades Poland; France and Great Britain declare war on Germany
Germany, lead by Adolf Hitler was secretely trying to take over Europe one country at a time by first strategically annxeing smaller territories. Then came the invasion of poland which caught everyones attention and potentialy started World War 2. -
Japan attacks Pearl Harbor
Japan had wanted the United States involved in the War for a while. But the President at the time did not want to be a part of the chaos, and only to help the British. To instantly catch our attention, the Japanese bombed pearly harbor, Hawaii in 1941. We were enraged and wanted revenge. -
Germany surrenders
Hitler had made many mistakes during the war that resulted in Thousands of soldier deaths and even the loss of territory that the Germans had gained during the War. After all the fighting finally Hitler comminted suincide after attempted assasinations and general hatred toward him. They then Surrendered soon after. -
Allies use atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Truman made the infamous decision of dropping the bombs on two major Japanese cities that resulted in the end of the war. The bombs killed thousands instantly and eventually about 400,000 people total. It was devastating but very effective to end the war. -
The United Nations Formed
There are 193 Member states in the United Nations whos goal is to achieve peace throughout the world. After the many losses of World War 1 and 2 we needed to make a change in all the conflict. The UN was exactly what was needed and is still in effective use today.
