They were given the smaller jobs such as mopping, cooking, and other cleaning tasks. Soon they were shipped off to French soldiers for training. -

On this day, the Arch Duke of Austria-Hungary was shot by Gavrilo Princip. This event is often considered the spark for World War 1, which would grow because of entangling alliances. -

A German U-boat torpedoed the Lusitania and sank it. The boat was on it's way from New York to Liverpool, England. The ship help 1,900 passengers. Over 120 of the passengers were Americans. -

United States finally declares war on Germany four days after Woodrow requested it. -

The war finally comes to an end after all the generals meet together and give the German General all of their terms and conditions for the aftermath of the war and how Germany is going to pay for it. They were unwilling to compromise with Germany.
