Fair Labor Standards Act
Forbids unfair treatment of employees by employers and reduced the number of hours worked with out getting overtime. Also established minimum wage. Created child labor laws, restricitng ages and work hours of children under the age of 18. -
Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act
It's and act put into place to require reporting and disclosure of certain financial transactions and administrative practices of work organizations and employers to help prevent abuses in the administration -
Equal Pay Act
The Equal Pay Act requires men and women to be payed equally for the equal amout of work. "Equal Work" is measured in, Skill, Effort, Responsibility, Working Conditions, and Establishment. -
Civil Rights Act
Banned employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin -
Age Discrimination in Employment Act
This act banned unfair treatment of workers the ages of 40+ and was an expansion of the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act of 1990 (Could not find exact date) -
Consumer Credit Protection Act
Protects employees from being fired because their wages have been garnished for debt. It also limits the amount of an employee's check that may be garnished in a week. -
Black Lung Benefits Act
This act provides monthly payments and medical benefits to coal miners disabled from pneumoconiosis (black lung disease) due to their employment with mining companies. -
OSHA
OSHA was created to assure safe and healthy work conditions for men and women and set/enforce standards and provide training. -
Employee Retirement Income Security Act
It establishes minimum standards for pension plans in private industry. -
Mine Safety and Health Act
Requires inspections of all mines each year to ensure safe and healthy work environments for miners -
Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act
*COBRA- Is an act that mandates an insurance program giving some employees the oppertunity to keep their health insurance coverage after leaving their place of employment. -
Immigration Reform and Control Act
It banned employers from discriminating against U.S. Citizens born outside of the country. -
Employee Polygraph Protection Act
It was established guidelines for polygraph testing and imposed restriction on most private employers. -
Americans with Disabilities Act
Bans discrimination of individuals with disabilities in matters involving employment, govt services and transportation -
Family and Medical Leave Act
This was an act put into place to give people temporary medical leave under certain circumstances.
