The french got word of this and set up their artillery as well as sent troops to destroy those artillery Weapons. Bayons job was to help evacuate the city for the upcoming war.

The french couldn't deal with the artillery. Jean Margueritte who was the General tried to make a escape route by launching a desperate attack on the nearby village of Floing where the prussian HQ was located.
