The French and Indian War
In May 1754 Virginia Miltiamen including Georgle Washington ambushed a French Patrol. This started a war between Britian and France. -
The Stamp Act
• Britain made the Colonists pay taxes on stamps
• The Colonists made the Stamp Act Congress and also mob riots broke out.
• Britain heard about the riots and made the Stamp Act Congress repeal -
Proclamation of 1763
• It didn't make the colonists do anything
• They didn't protest
• There was no response -
The Quartering Act
• British Troops were housed in American barracks and public houses.
• The New York Provincial Assembly would not comply
• Parliment suspended Province of New York's Goverment and Legislature, but it never got around -
Townshend Acts
• It made the Colonists play more revenue to prove that they are still loyal to Great Britain
• A person named John Dickinson wrote a 12 essays on opposing the act.
• The Acts were repealed -
The Boston Massacre
• A street fight broke out in Boston where a "patriot" mob were throwing snowballs, sticks, stones at British soldiers
• The Soldiers were ordered to shoot and 3 people died on the spot. -
The Tea Act
• It made the Colonists buy tea from the British
• They had the people selling tea to go back to Britain
• It was soon repealed in 1886 -
Boston Tea Party
• A protest against the tea act with dumping all the tea the British were selling overboard.
• This was one of the reasons the American Revolution started -
The Intolerable Acts
• It was a punishment for the people who part took in the Boston Tea Party.
• The Colonists boycotted British goods
• The British did nothing -
First Continental Congress
• Delegates from the Colonies banded up and started a congress • They enforced that english goods cannot be shipped to America -
Lexington/Concord
• British Soldiers were given secret orders to capture the rebel weapons. The Colonists knew about it and moved the weapons. • This was the first military attack of the American Revolution
