Invasion of the Rhineland
HItler ordered German troops to march into the Rhineland. It was a risk because it could be possible that France sent troops and this could end in a war, which Germany was not prepared for. The first troops who where sent into the Rhineland, were ordered to retreat if they met with French troops. -
The plebiscite
Schuschnigg announce that there would be a plebiscite in Austria to decide if the Austrian people wanted the country to remain independent or not. As Schuschnigg was afraid of losing, the people who was available to vote was the ones who where older twenty- four year old. -
Hitler met Henlein
Hitler met Henlein to give him instructions. He told the Sudeten leader to keep making demands that the Czechoslovak governemnt probably couldn't accept. By doing these, Hitler's hope was to create a crisis over Czechoslovakia. -
Hitler prepares to smash Czechoslovakia
Hitler decide to 'smash Czechoslovakia by military action in the future'. -
The Munich crisis
Henlein left Czechoslovakia because of the broken off between the Sudeten Germans and Prague, in which he ordered the local nazis to attack Czech and Jewish targets. -
Chamberlain and Hitler at Berchtesgaden
Hitler discuss with Chamberlain about the treatment of the Sudeten Germans, in which he agreed that the Sudetenland should be annexed by Germany, and Hitler asked him not using force to take control. -
The French leaders support
The French leaders Daladier and Bonnet went to London and agreed to support the partition of Czechoslovakia in return for a British promise to defend what was left of the Czechoslovak state. -
Wilson talk to Hitler
Chamberlain sent Wilson to talk with Hitler to find a peaceful solution. Hitler was not looking for a negotiation, he only wanted to 'smash the Czech'. -
Invitation to Munich
Chamberlain receive a note which said that Hitler agreed to a conference at Munich with representatives of Britain, France and Italy. A day later the conference began.
