The Defenestration of Prague
Ferdinand II sent catholic nobles to Prague in order to tell them to turn to the Catholic religion. The Protestants reacted violently by tossing the nobles out the window. -

Germany was invaded by the Sweden Army and caused massive destruction, including, over two thousand castles, eighteen thousand villages, one thousand five hundred towns, meaning that one third of Germany was destroyed. -

Peace treaty for tolerance and respect each other's territory between European states, which also ended the 30 year war. -
End of 30 Year War
After the peace treaty, it was decided that the war had finally come to an end. Because of their gained territory in the Spanish and German areas, France won the war. -
Frederick William's reign in Prussia
Frederick William was a violent and absolute monarch of Prussia from 1713 to 1740. He intended for his son, Frederick II, to train in the military but he ran away. He ordered his son to be sent to jail and only to be released if he agreed to do all his father asked. -
Frederick II reign in Prussia
After Frederick William died, Frederick II became king. He made Prussia into a unified territory using strategic military tactics, he built Prussia's economy, created a trade for religious tolerance in return for more men in the military and he sponsored art and philosophy. -
Successor after Charles VI's death
Before Charles VI died, due to the fact that he had no son, the nobles came up with the Pragmatic Solution, which was to have his daughter, Maria Theresa, heir the throne. Once, Charles died, the nobles forgot their promise and didn't want to support Maria Theresa in the throne. -
Austrian War of Succession
From 1740-1748, those who believed strongly in the Salic law (only a man could heir the throne), fought against Maria Theresa's right to ascend the throne after her fathers death. -
Maria Theresa becomes empress
Maria's strategy was to get married and make her husband an emperor since most thought it was only for men. Although, she was the "real" ruler in power. She rebuilt military, started educational forms, centralized the government, reformed tax codes, had many 16 children and expelled jews from some of the land. -
Maria Theresa's legacy
Maria Theresa died at age 63 in 1780. Her son Joseph II took over and her youngest daughter later became Marie Antoinette, Queen of France. -
Frederick William II's reign in Prussia
Once Frederick II died, his nephew, Frederick William II, took the throne until 1797. He enforced protection towards different religions and entered into an Austro- Prussian alliance in 1792.
