    Prime Minister Chamberlain went to the airwaves to announce to the British people that a state of war existed between their country and Germany.

    German forces invaded Poland from the north, south, and west. As the Germans advanced, Polish forces withdrew from their forward bases of operation close to the Polish–German border to more established lines of defence to the east.
  • Allied soldiers rescued from Belgium

    Allied soldiers rescued from Belgium
    Hundreds of thousands of troops were rescued from the German advance in the nick of time.The troops were desperately needed back on the home shores to help defend against a Nazi invasion.They were rescued from the harbour and beaches near to Dunkirk by a curious assembly of many different types of craft.

    When the Germans enterd Athens they orderd one of the elite soldiers of the Greek army (who are the guardians of the flag which flies over the Acropolis), to remove it. The soldier obeys, but then wraps himself in the blue and white flag and leaps from the walls of the ancient fortress to his death.

    Japanese/Americans exciled to relocation camps.
    Soldiers led them over a bridge and onto a ferry to Seattle, where they boarded a train for a three-day journey, with the shades drawn as they went through towns. Finally, buses delivered them to the Manzanar relocation camp in the California desert. About a year later, many sought transfer to the Minidoka relocation camp in south central Idaho to be with other prisoners from the Seattle area. They stayed there for the duration of the war.

    Wherever they lived, Jews were seized by the SS and taken to a military college in the center of Rome. After several days, the SS deported more than 1,000 Jews to the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp.

    The July Bomb Plot of 1944 was an attempt by senior German Army officers to kill Hitler and end World War Two. The July Bomb Plot was not the first attempt to kill Hitler, but it was the one that came the closest to success.

    Fifty one years ago in 1961 a tyrannical regime built the Berlin Wall. Though twenty-three years ago the sledge hammer of freedom broke through and the concrete Berlin Wall crumbled into the rubble of history. This wall is what seperated the East and West.

    The surrender of the Empire of Japan on September 2, 1945, brought the hostilities of World War II to a close. After having two atomic bombs dropped on them,they had no choice but to accept the terms and surrender.
