Soumitra Chatterjee plays Amal, the young brother-in-law, who breathes fresh life into the lonely world of the protagonist Charu, a neglected and suppressed housewife with a talent in writing. 'Charulata' was a movie ahead of its time as it explored a complex perspective of the world through female lens.
