The Battles of Lexington and Concord
This battle marked the start of the Revolutionary War. While the British were on their way to Boston, they met minutemen. In this battle the use of guerrilla warfare contributed to the loss of mainly British soliders (273 deaths). -
The Siege of Fort Ticonderoga
Major General John Burgoyne sailed with 9,100 troops to take Fort Ticonderoga. The British cut off the Americans escape route and they surrendered the Fort. Many lives were not lost, but pride was. -
The Battle of Chelsea Creek
The British began forcing the Americans to retreat, the British boat Diana followed them. The Americans eventually fought and then began firiring at the boat, which they capsized. -
The Battle of Bunker
The British took over Bunker hill in 1775. In the end, the British casualties were much greater, and the American morale was boosted. William Prescott commanded the colonists. -
The Battle of Quebec
This battle was one of the first major American losses. One of the generals, Richard Montgomery died in this battle. This attempt to capture Quebec failed because of the British determination and military strength. -
The Battle of Long Island
The British won this battle, the Americans were defeated because of the British tactics. They sent a small army to attack first. While they were distracted the larger force ambushed. Washington retreated. -
The Battle of White Plains
This battle resulted in the defeat of George Washington. The Americans wanted this land to have higher ground but the British had also won many battles in New York previously. After the event, the colonial army spread across the Crotton River. -
The Battle of Fort Washington
This battle was fought on the island of Manhattan. The British forces outnumbered the colonial army by 5,000. This was another devastating loss for Washington in New York. The British attacked all the American positions. -
The Battle of Trenton
Washingtons men went across the river in a snowstorm, they arrived in the early morning. This attack surprised the Hessians and forced them to leave. This boosted morale and gained supplies for the colonial forces. -
The Battle of Princeton
The Americans attempted to capture Princeton when they collided with British forces. The British lost 450 men and after this battle they lost control of some parts of New Jersey. -
The Battle of Oriskany
Americans attempting to help the Fort Stanwix were ambushed by loyalist and Indian forces. This resulted in a British victory. This was one of the bloodiest battles, the British after retreated to Canada. -
The Battle of Bennington
In this battle, the U.S army defeated two British forces. The British ended the fight with a substantial loss in supplies. This clash occured in New York. -
The Battle of Brandywine
During this battle there was confusion for Washington. He was unsure if the whole British force was coming or if it would be split. This fight on the Brandywine hills left the colonial army defeated, they retreated to Chester. -
The Battle of Saratoga
Also known as the battle of Freemans Farm, this engagement was known for using many long-distance shots on British officers. British casualties were double of American and supplies for the loyalists lowered dramatically. -
The Battle of Germantown
This British victory was another American failure, Washington attempted a surprise attack. This battle had a great influencse on the French begining to support American cause. -
The Battle of Saratoga (Bemis Heights)
General Burgoyne knew that the support troops would not make it there on time. The Americans still were succeeding in overpowering the British forces. America won this conforotation. -
The Battle of Monmouth
The results of the battle are not favoring one side. George Washingtons army attacked Herny Clintons troops. There were 1,300 deaths. -
The Capture of Savannah
This battle was yet another British victory. This was a suprise attack that resuted in colonial forces losing control of Savannah, Georgia. The British suffered almost no loss of life. -
The Siege of Charleston
Another British victory occurred in South Carolina. They outnumbered the Americans almost 2:1. In this battle General Benjamin Lincoln surrendered. -
The Battle of Camden
Cornwallis was going to attack Gates forces. The Americans yet again lost. In part due to the lack of bayonets and proper training. The British lost close to 1/3 of the men that the Americans did and gained weapons that they stole from colonial forces. -
The Battle of King's Mountain
Finally, a patriot victory. The 'over mountain men' aided in the success of this battle. The British lost around 300, they also lost hope. -
The Battle of Cowpens
This is a major event for the South in the war. An American victory came along when British commander Tarleton became too confident and underestimated American forces. Colonials good orginization and great leader led to a well needed win. -
The Battle of Guilford Courthouse
This fight in North Carolina involved Greene and Cornwallis. The Americans greatly outnumbered the British but still could not obtain a victory. They could not because they lost so many men and supplies. -
The Battle of Eutaw Springs
This battle resulted in a draw. In this fight, many British were captured. The British were low on supplies and needed to loot Americasn to have victory. -
The Battle of Yorktown
This is known as the greatest victory of the war. After this, the British considered a treaty. The French and American forces outnumbered the loyalists. After this surrender, the British began losing hope.
