Sally Ride was born in Los Angeles, California on May 26, 1951. She was born to parents Dale Burdell and Carol Joyce Ride. -
Sally Ride graduates
Sally Ride graduated from Westlake School for Girls in 1968. She excelled at school and it was no surprise that she made it all the way through. -
Recieved Master of Science and Doctorate in Physics
In 1975, Sally Ride recieved this very important college award. She was very passionate about tennis, and was even placed nationaly, but decided to follow physics. This would lead to a career. -
Receives Second Award
3 years later, Sally Ride received a second award! -
Accepted Into NASA!
In the same year that Sally Received her second award, Sally was accepted into N.A.S.A. This is where most of her future would unfold. -
First Woman in Space!
In 1983, Ride became the first woman in space. She was sent into the skies on an orbit mission. This was one of the greater milestones of her life. She showed amazing confidence and also independence. -
Challenger Explodes
In January 1986, Sally Ride lost some friends in the tragic explosion of the challenger. The shuttle caught on fire during launch, and the flight, although planned, obviously did not end up happening. -
Resigns From NASA
In 1978, Sally Ride resigned from NASA to become a physics teacher. She taught in college and was happy working as an educator. -
Dies
Sadly, Sally Ride died July 2nd, 2012. She is survived by her partner and a staff of 40, along with several family members.
