The Freedmen’s Bureau
The Freedmen's Bureau was a federal agency established during the reconstruction era, which was put in place to protect emancipated slaves during their transition from slaves to free men.
The Freedmen's Bureau helped African Americans to have the right to vote, get an education, and for African Americans to manage their own land that was abandon or confiscated property. -
President Lincoln is Assassinated
President Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth while at the theater with his wife. After Lincoln's assassination Andrew Johnson became president. -
The 13th Amendment is Passed
The 13th Amendment was put in place to abolish slavery, which the southerners were not so happy about because of the money they made from enforcing slavery into the farms. -

Military Reconstruction Acts
Congress wanted to pass this act so African Americans have their rights to be free, vote, hold political offices, and become judges/ police chiefs. -
Andrew Johnson’s Impeachment Trial
The House of Representatives impeached President Andrew Johnson because of his high crimes and misdemeanors during his run in office. He was saved from being impeached due to one vote less than the two-thirds necessary to remove him. Six months after the end of the civil war Johnson declared the end of Reconstruction. -
Election of Ulysses S. Grant
Grant was marked by scandals in his presidency because many people in his administration were crooks that stole form the government. He pushed for the 15th amendment and signed a bill that allowed African decent to become U.S citizens. -
14th Amendment
The 14th Amendment says that anyone born or naturalized in the United States cannot have their rights denied in any state in the U.S. -
15th Amendment
The significance of this amendment was that it protects the voting rights of all citizens no matter the person. -
Reconstruction Ends
Reconstruction ended to a screeching halt as soon as Rutherford B. Hayes was elected into office. Everything that happened during reconstruction was reversed. He undid all of it and things went back to the way they were.
