The Intolerable Acts
This act was passed by Parliament. and it was a response to the Boston Tea Party. This act shut down the Boston Harbor until Boston colonists paid for the damaged tea. The colonists thought these laws were threatening towards their liberty. Parliament thought the colonies should separate and focus on these acts. -
The First Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress, In Philadelphia, John Adams, George Washington, Samuel Adams, and Patrick Henry members met up to the draft and discussed how colonists have the right to participate in a free government that protected their freedom and address colonial grievances and complaints. -
The Second Continental Congress
This congress appointed officials to negotiate with Indian tribes. and other foreign governments. And it also authorized the creation of the navy to aid the Continental Army. This was important because of it acting as a national government. -
The Olive Petition
The Olive Branch is a petition that states that the Americans should stay loyal to the king. and it was an offer that the Americans wanted peace. King George the III refused the petition and he proclaimed the colonies to "open rebellion". This was important because the colonists were loyal to the king. -
The Battle of Bunker Hill
The Battle of Bunker Hill, in Massachusetts between British and Continental army. The British won this battle. The Continental Army was forced to leave the hill with more than 1,000 redcoats. -
Publication Of Common Sense
Thomas Paine published common sense in order to persuade the colonists to declare freedom from great Britain. He argued that a tiny island should not have control over a large continent and he called King George III a “royal brute”. This propaganda piece changed many colonists ideas about freedom and they began to take up arms against Britain. -
The Declaration Of Independence
This was created by Thomas Jefferson, This was basically a breakup letter and it was declaring dependence and the continental congress. and also declaring freedom from Great Britain of the colonies.This document was important because they are finally having peace with one another. -
Battle of Trenton
General Washington won this battle. He will not give up on this battle, he continuously went back to the river and had Hessians to fight and they were very serious about winning this battle. -
Battle of Princeton
General George Washington leads Continental Soldiers in the battle against British redcoats. The Continental Army emerges victories. British forces learn that the Continental Army can defeat them! The continental Soldiers begin to feel confident and continued to enlist in the army boosting America's number of soldiers. -
Battle of Saratoga
This battle was important because it was the turning point of the Revolutionary War. The Continental Army won this one. France helped the army with this one. It was Americans over British Troops. -
Valley Forge
This was the hardest time for Washington's army. They spent all winter here. Men suffered in cold, diseases, hunger. The remaining soldiers that survived this time became professional. -
Lexington and Concord
British troops moved onto Concord and destroyed supplies the Patriots had not moved yet. they were forced to retreat. and the Patriots were using guerrilla-style tactics attacked the redcoats as they were retreating. The British troops suffered 250 casualties. Lexington had one this battle. -
Battle of Yorktown
This was the last major battle of the Revolutionary War. Cornwallis and his troops had been trapped in Chesapeake by the French Navy. The British won this battle. The British had took control with Chesapeake. -
The Treaty Of Paris
The Treaty of Paris ended the American Revolutionary War. Both nations, The united states and Great Britain, signed this treaty. Britain officially recognized America as an independent nation, and pushed Americans to treat Loyalists well. As part if the terms of the treaty, America was awarded a chunk of the Ohio River Valley.
