Motorola's DynaTAC 8000X cell phone was marketed to the public. It weighed less than 2 pounds and operated on AMPS, the first analog 1G service in North America. The first cell phone approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States, it offered 30 minutes of talk time, 6 hours on standby and could store up to 30 phone numbers. -

The IBM Simon, a cell phone, pager, fax and PDA, which also included a calendar, address book, clock, calculator, notepad, e-mail, games and a touch screen with QWERTY keyboard, was launched. -

Sharp made its J-SH04 model available to the public, with a built-in camera that offered images with a resolution of 0.1 megapixels. This device was the beginning of what is now known as MMS because it had an integrated CCD sensor and the Sha-Mail infrastructure. -

The first camera phone is marketed in North America: the Sanyo 5300 from Sprint. RIM launches the first Blackberry, although its most popular models were: the 5810, for incorporating a cell phone into a data-only device; and the 2002, because it included wireless e-mail, printing and faxing. This year also saw the release of the T-Mobile Sidekick, a phone that enabled a web browsing experience and integrated instant messaging (AIM), with a QWERTY keyboard. -

2007 - 2008 The market is growing
The world is familiar with Apple's iPhone, a touchscreen smartphone with 3G technology.
HTC Dream emerged as the first smartphone capable of running Google's Android operating system. It included a QWERTY keyboard, a full HTML web browser, Gmail and YouTube. -
2010 - 2010 to the future "The future is today"
The first device to work with the 4G network arrived: the HTC EVO 4G from Sprint. It also featured one of the largest touchscreens, an 8 MP camera, HD video capture, HDMI output, Mobile Hotspot capability and HTC Sense. New products with different models started to be generated trying to improve the quality of the camera, generating fast and efficient servers.
