The group organized sit-ins led by students at lunch counters all over the South. The sit-ins we an act of protesting the seperation of whites and blacks in an unfair manner.

    The movement led to the arrests of more than 1000 African-Americans in many rural counties in Georgia. One of the African- Americans that were arrested was Martin Luther King Jr., who admitted that he had failed to complete the task at hand eight months after the movements start.

    Andrew YoungAndrew Young gave Atlanta its international reputation. He was a pastor who organized nonviolent protest for the SCLC. In 1972 Young became the first African-American in the Georgia Congress since after the Civil War. In 1981 Young became mayor of Atlanta.
