Grandma Marie came to US on USS Noordam
Landed in Ellis Island. Had around $4000 savings. Couldn't come to port for 10 days because baby was sick. Grandma Marie had finished her schooling in Holland but had to start over to learn English. -

Mom born
WWII declared Dec. 8th, 1941. Family had food stamps for sugar and flour. Lucky they were able to raise everything else on the farm even making own soap. -
Grandpa John died
pic taken around 1945--end of WWII. 2 uncles serving in military while a third uncle will serve in Korean War in 1950. -
Mom-1 semester in college
Edgewood in Madison, WI. Mom needed to be home to care for 6 younger siblings. -
Dad service to Army
Dad served in the National Guard the spring and summer before his wedding. He served inactive duty for 5 1/2 years thereafter. -
Mom and Dad married

Attended Albert Lea Vocational School--2 years plus many online classes in future years. -
Brother Rick born
Attended 1 year at UST. Also went to some accounting school in Rochester. Also attended Dunwoody for drafting. -
Dad worked at Northern States Power Company (NSP).
Did many classes with books and correspondence through the mail. -
Sister Sue born.
Graduated from UST with Education and Math degrees. -
Brother Jim born.
Graduated from St. Cloud State with Elementary and Middle School Education degree. -
