Battle of Nueces
Major Fritz Tegener led a group of 60 German Texans in effort to join the Union army. They were followed by 94 Confederate soldiers on horseback led by Lieutenant C.D. McRae. McRae caught up with them the next morning and the two forces faught. Many Union soldiers were killed, ones who were wounded were excecuted later. Few survivors reached Union in New Orleans, and a monument was later built in Comfort, Texas, to honor the Germans and one Mexican American who died fighting for the Union. -
Battle of Corpus Christi
"Battlel of Corpus Christi was faught between August 12 and August 18, 1862 during the American Civil War, United States Navy forces blocklading Texas faught a small land and sea engagement with Confederate forces in and around Corus Christi Bay and bombarded Corpus Christi Union forces defeated Confederate States Navy ships operating in the area but were replsed when they landed on the coast." -
Battle of Port Lavaca
Federal gunboats bombarded the port on October 31 and November 1, 1862, but the city defended by waterfront batteries did not surrender, and the gunboats withdrew. -
Battle of Galveston Island
President Lincoln ordered a blockade of Southern ports to stop the shipment of supples. Union topps captured the island. General John B. Madruder launched an attack to retake island on January 1, 1863. -
Battle of Sabine Pass
"1st Battle of Sabine Pass was a naval and land battle during the A.C.W. In addition to stenghtening the Union naval blockade of the Teas coastline, it was also intended to open the way for a possible amphibios assault on the Confederate town of Sabine Pass." | 2nd Battle of Sabine Pass took on Sept. 8, 1863, and was the result of a Union expedidion into Confederate- controlled Texas during the A.C.W. It has often been credited as the most- Confederate victory during the conflict. -
Battle of Laredo
"Battle of Laredo was faught during the American Civil War. Laredo, TX was a main route to export cotton to Mexico on behalf of the Confederate States. On March, 18, 1864, Major Alfred Holt led a union force of about 200 men from Brownsville, TX to destory 5,000 bales of cotton stacked at the San Agustin Plaza. Colonel Benavides commanded 42 Confederate soldiers and repelled three union attacks at Zacate Creek, Colonel Benavides secured passage of the 5,000 cotton bales into Mexico." -
Battle of Mansfield
"Battle of Mansfield..."Occurred on Aprl. 8, 1864, in De Soto Parish, LA. Confederate forces commanded by R. Taylor attacked a Union army commanded by N. Banks a few miles outside of the town of Mansfield, near Sabine Crossroads. The Union forces held their positions for a short time before being overwhelmed by Confederate attacks and driven form the field. The battle was a deciive Confederate victory which stopped the advance of the Union army's River Campain during the A.C.W..." -
Battle of Dove Creek
"Battle of Dove Creek was a small engagement during the American Civil War that took place Jan. 8, 1865 along Dove Creek what is now southwest Tom Green County, TX. Texan soldiers under Confederate captains Henry Fossett and S.S. Totten, misunderstanding which tribe occupied a discovered camp, attacked a tribe of peaceful Kickapoo Indians and were badly beaten by an organized defense. -
