Germany invades Poland with the Blitkrieg strategy. Poland fell to the germans in just a few days. This battle showed that Germany was there to do some damage. It also showed that Germany was a force to be reckoned with. They had a massive number of troops and cutting war technology. The taking of Poland was one the first dominoes that started World War II. -

France and the United Kingdom Declare War
After the invasion of Poland, France and the United Kingdom declare war on Germany. By the end of september, Poland fell to Germany. After taking Poland, Germany went on to take over several other couontries in Europe. The German Nazis posed a major threat to France and the United Kingdom. This threat and other reasons pushed the allies to declare war on Nazi Germany. -
Germany Takes France
Despite France's attempt to stop the Germans, they pushed straight through the Maginot line and into the capital of France. The Nazis had almost complete control of France which was massively important because it kept the allies from having access to the Germans through land. If the Allies wanted to attack they would have to invade and storm beaches. Despite this, the Allie eventually attacked.Because the Germans controlled France for so long, much of the country was destroyed or vandalized. -
The attack on Pearl Harbor
On this date in history, the Japanese navy attacked the US on their own soil. They destyroyed many of our ships and took many of our mens lives. This attack can be compared to the recent terrorist attack 911. The attack, in both cases, brought our nation together and united us to be stronger than ever before. Despite the destruction, the US was able to regroup and sustain the military to prepare for wartime action. -
US Enters WWII
Because of the attack on Pearl Harbor, the US makes the decision to enter the war. The US sides with the allies instead of the axis powers. The US would be facing a two front war but the major leaders of the allies came up with the Europe first strategy. This strategy involved the allies going after Hitler first and then the Japanese later. Hitler seemed to be the greater threat, which was the reasoning behind the strategy. -
Battle of Midway
The battle of Midway was very important to the US because it was the turning point of the war in the Pacific. The US gained momentum and was able to use their Island Hopping strategy to get closer and closer to mainland Japan. During this battle, the US navy destroyed a big chunk of the Japanese navy and their other assorted war resources. This gave the Americans a foothold in which to make war from. Because of this battle, the US was eventually able to reach Japan and force surrender. -
The Battle of Stalingrad
The battle of Stalingrad was extremely important because it was the turning point in the war for the allies. Also, Stalingrad ended Hitler's plans of world domination. Stalingrad gave the allies a foothold that allowed them to retaliate against the Nazis. During the battle, a massive chunk of Hitler's army was destroyed. This gave momentum to the allies and discouraged the Nazis. -
D-Day
On this day, the allies hit the beaches of France. The Allies stormed 5 beaches. The names of which were codenamed as Omaha, Utah, Juno, Gold and Sword. Most of the beaches encountered retaliation but eventually fell. Despite this, one of the beaches was one of the most bloody battles of World War II. This beach was Omaha beach. The men that took this beach allowed the allies to move into France and eventually defeat Hitler. -
Battle of the Bulge
The battle of the ulge was important because it was Hitler's last ditch effort to push through and defeat the allies. Hitler's men did push the allies back but some of the men held the line. This combination made a bulging shape which helped the battle recieve its name. The battle ended in the favor of the allies. The Germans were left discouraged and depressed while the allies gained more momentum. -
The Dropping of The Atomic Bomb
On this day, President Truman makes the decision to use the atomic bomb on Japan. His reasoning behind it was to save as many American lives as possible. The bomb was the most destructive war device ever used. It caused the most deaths in the shortest time ever. The two bombs that were dropped caused Japan to surrender. This ended the war in the pacific resulting in another American victory.
