And it was against Nazi Germany. It was a so called phony war when the Germans invaded the Netherlands and Luxembourg in a blitzkrieg. It took place from May 26th to June 4th 1940
  • Battle of Britan

    In the summer and fall of 1940, German and British air forces fought in the skies over the United Kingdom, locked in the largest sustained bombing campaign. the Battle of Britain ended when Germany’s Luftwaffe failed to gain air superiority over the Royal Air Force. This took place July 10th to October 31st 1940.

    This was the successful Soviet defense of the city of Stalingrad. Russians consider it to be the greatest battle of their greatest War, and most historians consider it to be the greatest battle of the entire conflict. This took place from 1942 to February 1943.

    It was the invasion by the Allies against French North Africa.The plan was to invade Sicily and then onto the mainland of Italy. Then they would move to the "soft underbelly" of Europe. The key to Torch was a successful amphibious landing. The years were November 8th to November 10th 1942.

    The day when 156,000 American, British, and Canadian troops storm the coast of France's Normandy. It was a 50 mile stretch. This is one of the most famous events in World War 2
  • Battle of Leningrad

    When the Nazis invaded the Soviet Union in 1941 a German army surrounded the city of Leningrad. Which created a siege. The people of the city tried to evacuate through often using a hazardous “ice and water road” across Lake Ladoga. A successful land corridor was created in January 1943, and the Red Army finally managed to drive off the Germans the following year. This took place in September 8th to January 27th 1944

    This was the Germans launch their last major offence in the war.This an attempt to push the Allied front line west from northern France to northwestern Belgium. The Germans threw 250,000 soldiers into the initial assault. This took battle took place in December 16th 1944 to January 25th 1945

    The Russian victory saw the end of Hitler’s Third Reich and the occupation of the city by the Red Army before it was divided into four. As the Red Army pushed across Poland to the River Oder they could muster a very strong fighting force and completely outnumbered the Germans in terms of men and equipment. This took place between April 16th to May 2nd 1945
