The history of Le Mans
This is the time span of Le Mans. It has ran each year since 1923, excpet for French strikes in1936, world war 2 and the petrolem shortage of 1973-74. -
The first races.
These first races were diffrent from todays Le Mans in that the winner was declared after three years of racing. The races were 24 hours long and the distnace traveld was added up after 3 years or 3 races, and then the winnner was declared. -
The rules change.
After 2 serries of racing with the 3 years rule the directors of the race decided to change the ruling to what is used 2day. -
Le Mans closed
Le Mans is closed for world war 2 -
The race resumes.
After world war 2 the raceing series went back to racing like before, but with more intrest from bigger companies. -
The world sportscar championship
The worlds sportscar championship was created in 1953 and was a factory competion to find the best sportscar in the world. -
The Series at Le Mans
The Le Mans race hosted the World sportscar championship and the winners of that race were Duncan Hamiltion and Tony Rolt -
Saftey gets reviewed
After the 1955 crash of driver Pierre Levegh saftey was reviewed and many companies changed from open toped cars to hard roofs. -
American compaines come
In 1960 the Cheverolet Corvettes won there catogory in the race for the first time. This began the period of american interst in the race. -
The Ford GT
This is the first time that the Ford's GT won it's race. This begain it's amazing 4 year domintaion of the race. -

New Rules
The Rules were once again changed to incorprate the fimilar rolling start of todays Le Mans -
The Porsche 917
This car brought Porsche to the podium in both 1970 and 1971. -
Matra and Fanch's win
in 1972 the Matra company won the Le Mans race, the first time a french company had sense 1950. -
Privateers for the win
Privateers John Wyer won the 1975 Le Mans race with his Mirage race car. -

Porsches domintation
During the first part of the 1980's Porsche domintated Le Mans. -
Priveeters win
The french driver and car desinger Jean Rondeau won the 1980 Le Mans race with his self tittled car. -
New class is created
The new racing class group c is created. The cars in this catagorie are fuel efficent by racing standerds and are slightly modified sportscars. -
Jaguar returns
In 1984 Jaguar returened to Le Mans wit the XJR-5 -
Mercedes takes the win
Mecercedes returns to the podum after a 20 year break. -
The course is changed
The course changed in 1990 to become what it is seen today. This is that the Musalene straight now has two chicans, this change was to lower down speed in excesive of 250 miles per hour -

Crazy production
During this time period companies put together cars that were designed for le mans and sold as production cars. This was to get around the loophole on prodution based car teams. -
McClearn wins
McClearn takes it's win in the McClaren F1 -
BMW's Win
In 1999 BMW took it's first win in the Le Mans series with therir V12 LMR. -

Tom Kristensen got his record setting 7th win at le Mans in his Audi R8 -
A diesel wins
Victory of a HDI-FAP Diesel engine with Peugeot, this is the second win from a diesel after Audis 2005 win.
