    John Dupre attended the University of Oxford, in which he later transferred to the University of Cambridge where he graduated with his Ph.D in 1981 as a Harkness Fellow.

    Following his tenure at Stanford University in the United After 13 years at the Department of Philosophy at Stanford University, Dupre returned to the United Kingdom in which he ventured to work as a professor at Birkbeck College and University of London.

    In 2002, he was selected to become the director of eugenics; professor of philosophy and science; the centre for the study of human life sciences. Dupre served as director for 20 years.

    An ERC-funded project that spanned from 2013 until 2018. This projects goal was to describe ontology from a biological and biomedical science rather than the traditional perspective. Dupre's work during this project later evolved into his lectures provided at Gifford in Edinburgh nearly 5 years later.
