    The second generation began in 1976 with the Fairchild Channel F along with the Radofin Electronics’ 1292 advanced programmable video system. It was fuelled by the golden age of arcade video games. But the dominant console of the second generation was the Atari 2600.

    1983, the third era of consoles began. The third generation is also known as the 8 bit era of gaming. It also marked an end to the north America game crash. The best selling console of the time was the nintendo entertainment system. This helped bring north america out of the video game crash, and meant that gamers trusted publishers to bring out good quality games.

    Nintendo brought out the first 4th generation console with the 16 bit super nintendo entertainment system. Nintendo has a lot of success from this, because of it’s predecessor the nintendo entertainment system. The console sold millions, and was one of the more dominant consoles at the time. This new era of gaming, revolutionised the gaming world, and helped to create the future for the consoles we have now.
  • PlayStation one

    The fifth generation of the gaming consoles was the 32, and 64 bit era of gaming. This helped the first successful handhelds at the time to be made. The 32 bit era made some significant improvements to gaming. It abled games to be in 3D for the first time. One of the more successful consoles of the time was the play station. The PSone was the first console to sell 100 million copies during it’s life span.

    The play station 2 was the second instalment of Sony’s play station series. It went on to be the most popular games console in the world, selling 150 million copies world wide. The play station 2 had great graphics for it’s time, and introduced some new and innovative technology to go with it. An example of this was the sony eye toy. The eye toy was a camera that connected to the PS2 and allowed the user to move there body, to play games.

    The seventh generation of games saw competition between Microsoft’s xbox 360, and Sony’s PS3. The xbox 360 was innovative, because it was one of the first consoles to have an online portion of the console, Xbox Live. Xbox Live allowed players to do things like test there skills with other players online, surf the internet, watch Netflix, and many other uses. The xbox 360 also saw the rise of arcade games, allowing smaller gaming companies to make games, for a fraction of the price of retail

    The xbox one is the successor of the xbox 360, and competes with the PS4 and the WiiU. This is an all in one device. Meaning you can watch TV on it, surf the internet, call people on things like Skype, and it allows the user to snap things. This means you could be watching a football match, and have Skype next to it, so you can call your friends, and discuss things in the match. It has added lot’s of new, and innovative things, to gaming consoles.
